Went out for a bit of a drive in my sister's boyfriend's 106 GTi, as the Alfa needs its cambelt doing. What do you think?

Accidentally committed the cardinal sin of video creation (filming in portrait), but there's a learning curve to this. Took me damn near 3 days to sync the audio properly, as my computer's processors aren't quite up to the job of smooth video playback during editing.

Records a bit quietly, but you can fix that a bit in editing. Still, sounds excellent which is the main thing.

That thing sounds great!

But seriously, portrait?! Come on, man!

I does, doesn't it? Proper old-schoold 4-cylinder bark. Comparing the GoPro audio to the Zoom is light night and day. The only thing the GoPro audi is useful for is synching up the video and the new sound.

I didn't even consider it when I stuck the GoPro on. You live and learn :)

You should be able to adjust the record level on your zoom so you don't need to bump it when you edit. The key is to make sure it's not 'clipping' but recording as loud as possible. I'm sure you can find people talking about how to do that on the Zoom H1. I have the Tascam DR-80, so I'm not much help when it comes to specifics.

You can manually set the level, but I haven't found a way to record it louder. The only way I can see is to record onto something separate using the line-out on it and adjusting the volume of that.

Are you turning up the 'input level', like in this video?

Not sure whether I have actually, thanks for the tip :) I'll give it a go next time I've got some time free. Maybe with the Alfa so you can see what I'm harping on about the noise for.
